The Ghetto at Night

Description

In the hush of night, the ghetto stirs,
A symphony of shadows, stories that confer,
Under moon's faint glow, streets come alive,
A world unseen by the daylight's drive.

Windows glow with a warm, golden hue,
Life's flickering candle, a hope anew,
A patchwork of lives in the dark's embrace,
The heartbeat of a neighborhood, finding its pace.

Laughter echoes through narrow alleys,
Voices harmonize in night's sweet rally,
Children's footsteps dance on the pavement's beat,
In the heart of the ghetto, life's rhythms meet.

Yet amidst the hustle, a quiet song,
Of dreams that struggle, hopes that belong,
In the heart of the night, resilience takes flight,
The ghetto's spirit shines, strong and bright.

For in the darkness, stories unfurl,
Of dreams pursued with an unyielding whirl,
The ghetto at night, a tapestry unique,
Where strength and unity are what we seek.

*** About the Composition ***

It's not so difficult to compose about slums theme, because the world is full of material about them. However, two particularly works has called my attention.

The first one, is the work of Dr. Ian Cross about Mathare Valley Slums, that has produced very enlightening informations and photos. Mathare Valley Slums is a collection of slums in Nairobi, Kenya with a population of approximately 500,000 people and Dr. Ian visited the place as a guest of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). You can see this work that I'm talking about in his blog.

The second one, is the work of AdamT, a documentary photographer based in Mumbai (India), whose  awesome gallery is full of  Mumbai street photos and spontaneous portraits. You can see his lovely work in his site and the picture that I've used in this composition in the following link.

I'm very grateful that I've got the permission to use their photos in this composition and I'd like to thank them both again.
